85% meters released in Phase 0
- Funds have been disbursed for 656,752 meters
- 305,962 meters installed for consumers
The Special Adviser on Infrastructure to President Muhammadu Buhari, Ahmed Zakari has said 85% of the meters in Phase 0 of the National Mass Metering Programme have been installed for consumers.
Mr. Zakari speaking on the challenges faced said “The major problem faced by the indigenous producers and Meter Asset Providers, MAPs is the pace of ramp-up of available personnel for installation”
”Another problem is the lack of a vital plastic component as one of the two major global suppliers (based in Germany) had shut down during the Coronavirus pandemic, resulting in pressure to the value chain” he added.
Mr. Zakari explained that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has so far disbursed funding for 656,752 meters. He noted that of that figure, a total of 305,962 meters have been installed.
The NMMP is expected to address the critical metering challenges in the sector. Phase 0 of the NMMP targets a total of one million meters for installations.
