  • AEDC staff embark on indefinite strike
  • Threaten to withdraw services completely
  • Allege failure of AEDC to remit pension deductions for 19 months

The staff of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) have embarked on an indefinite strike over non-payment of entitlements for at least 20 months. Staff across AEDC’s offices within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) commenced the strike action today.

In addition to demands for the payment of outstanding entitlements, 2020 bonus allowances, the staff of AEDC are demanding the remittance of pensions deducted by the utility to the Pension Fund Administrators (PFA). The striking workers allege the failure of the utility to remit pension deductions for the last 19 months.

A notice posted by the striking workers on the gates of the AEDC office in Gwarimpa reads, ”Pay the remaining: batches of 2020 bonus. Pension remittances (19 months). Third batch of bulk rent. Thrift deductions (17 months) and union check off dues (4 months). AEDC management, pay us now!”

Another notice at the Lugbe Area Office reads, ”Enough is Enough, pay us our outstanding pension remittance (20 months); thrift/corporative deductions (7 months); 2020 productivity bonus; payment of bulk rent and non payment of union check off bonus.” with staff threatening to withdraw their services.

  1. The epitome of corporate IRRESPONSIBILITY in Nigeria’s private sector. I experienced this while working in the private sector (and never got justice up till this day). As long as corruption by Nigerians against Nigerians doesn’t end, Nigerians will never deserve God’s Mercy let alone the kind of progress that countries of the developed world have!
