The residents of Gwallameji and other areas of Bauchi state have lamented the lack of supply. The blackout has persisted for months with no resolution. The vandalisation of the electrical equipment caused the blackout in the area, and the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) has failed to resolve the issue.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a resident, Mr Olayemi Abisayo, lamented the prolonged power outage and stated that the outage had affected the area’s businesses and water supply services. According to Abisayo, boreholes and other water sources that depended on electricity supply in the area were shut have been affected by the outage.
Another resident of Rafin Zurfi area of the metropolis Mr Paul Ugochukwu, said, ”We are experiencing epileptic power supply in the past three months spent days without light in the area”. ”We need the light for domestic use, and most families could not afford power generators to meet their households needs”, he added.
Mr Mohammed Nasir, Regional Network Engineer Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC), responding to the complaints, reiterated the commitment of JEDC to improving the quality of supply. He noted the increase in the number of vandalism cases in the area. He said JEDC would investigate the complaints and work assiduously to resolve the prolonged blackout.
