- BEDC begins disconnection exercise
- To disconnect illegal consumers
- Enforces metering standards
Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has begun the disconnection of illegally connected customers within its franchise areas. BEDC announced in a statement that the disconnection exercise ”..afforded BEDC the opportunity of checking installed meters, especially prepaid ones, for possible bypass and huge debts.”
In a statement signed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) BEDC, Funke Osibodu, BEDC states that the exercise aims at improving service delivery in line with the Service Reflective Tariff (SRT) regime.
“The exercise saw the company’s business unit and service centre officers in these locations, combing the network for illegalities.” the statement read.
“We used the exercise to send a clear message to non-responsive customers that BEDC will not allow infractions to continue within its network,” Osibodu said.
Mrs Osibodu also noted that the disconnection exercise would help improve the revenue stream of BEDC and would be extended to other BEDC franchises in Ondo, Ekiti and Delta states.
