BEDC develops a discount scheme for customers
- Customers to repay debt between 6-60 months depending on the debt profile
- Applicable discounts range from 5-25%
The Benin Electricity Distribution Company(BEDC) has announced a debt discount scheme to enable customers to pay their outstanding debt within an agreed time. The BEDC has said, “The Debt Rescheduling Scheme is in line with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (NERC) Act, which mandates that electricity operators recover costs on prudent investment to be able to provide quality services to customers”.
The Scheme offers debt discounts from 5-25%, an initial down payment of 25% of the debt profile, and a repayment period of 6- 60 months, depending on the debt profile of the customer. Discounts will be discontinued for customers who fail to make payments as at when due.
BEDC has said this discount scheme became necessary given the economic challenges in the country.
