Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has offered its customers discounts on all outstanding electricity debts. BEDC is offering its customers within its Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti franchise areas up to 25% discounts for the payment of outstanding electricity bills. The Managing Director BEDC, Mrs Funke Osibodu, while speaking to journalists, stated that the decision to offer the discount scheme to customers came about as a result of the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on its customers.

”But recognising the financial difficulties that customers are going through, especially during this period of COVID 19, BEDC has begun a Debt Rescheduling Scheme (DRS) for customers in its coverage areas.” she continued.

”This is a soft-landing approach for customers to settle their outstanding debts on electricity consumption as it offers discount ranging from 5% to 25%, down payment of 25%, with balance payable over four years or provision of an additional 5% discount where a customer pays off such outstanding instantly,” she added.

Osibodu also stated that customers who subscribe to the discount scheme would not be disconnected, and those without meters will enjoy an accelerated metering process. ”The scheme ensures that customers who subscribe are not disconnected and are given accelerated metering process,” she said.
