BEDC to tackle Right of Way violators
- To partner with four state governments on enforcement of RoW
- To begin awareness campaigns on RoW violations
Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has begun issuing Right of Way (RoW) notices to violators. In addition, BEDC has said it has begun enforcing RoW penalties on violators in line with Nigerian Electricity Management Services Authority (NEMSA) directives.
Speaking at the World Environment Day event organised by Independent Radio Television (ITV), Benin, BEDC Safety Manager, Mr Gilbert Nweke said, ”In line with NEMSA directive, customers that violate the right of way of power lines can be disconnected while distribution companies should not extend electricity supply to prospective customers whose buildings/structures/businesses violate the right of way of power lines”.
According to Nweke, BEDC is ready to partner with the respective state governments within its franchise areas (Ondo, Edo, Delta and Ekiti) on Right of Way challenges. In addition, BEDC would also employ media awareness campaigns to stop the Right of Way encroachments.
