- Nigeria and Canada will strengthen cooperation on energy sustainability through two landmark events in 2026.
- The events aim to promote leadership, policy innovation, and practical solutions for sustainable development across Africa.
Nigeria and Canada will deepen collaboration on energy sustainability through two major initiatives announced in Toronto. IMPATEZ Management and Toronto Metropolitan University will host the 2026 Canada-Africa Sustainability and Energy Summit and the inaugural 2026 Canada-Africa Sustainability Excellence Awards. The organisers said the events will promote excellence in sustainable development with a strong focus on energy, leadership, and policy.
Meanwhile, Olalekan Ajibade, Chief Executive Officer of IMPATEZ Management, said the summit will take place in partnership with the Centre for Urban Energy at Toronto Metropolitan University. The programme will share practical insights and case-based knowledge with policymakers, investors, academics. Sustainability professionals from Nigeria, Canada, and other African countries will also offer actionable insights. In addition, the summit will support knowledge transfer on energy infrastructure and sustainability leadership challenges.
IMPATEZ will host the Sustainability Excellence Awards to honour top business leaders, government officials, corporations, non-profits, and practitioners for advancing sustainable development in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The organisers also said the awards will encourage the integration of sustainability into business processes, organisational systems, and strategic decision-making. They explained that a rigorous evaluation process will guide the selection, using input from investors, journalists, researchers, and sustainability experts.
Furthermore, Ajibade said sustainability leadership requires organisations to integrate environmental, social, and economic metrics into their core operations. He added that the upcoming events will provide meaningful networking and partnership opportunities between academia and industry. IMPATEZ aims to develop professionals with the skills needed to embed sustainability into corporate governance, strategy, and disclosure practices.
Ajibade said IMPATEZ Management Consulting Inc. engages in strategic academia-industry partnerships that bring together global energy and sustainability experts to deliver practical solutions for Africa and beyond. The organisers also said the 2026 summit and awards will position Nigeria as a key beneficiary of global sustainability knowledge. It will strengthen Nigeria-Canada cooperation in energy and sustainable development.
