- Consumers complaints on the increase say FCCPC
- DisCos attitude to consumers, careless
- Consumers will resist paying for poor supply
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has noted its alarm at the Distribution Companies (DisCos) attitude towards their customers. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) FCCPC, Babatunde Irukera, made this known at the Commission’s Consumer Complaint Resolution Platform for Ikeja Electric and Eko DisCo customers. Mr Irukera said consumers around the country are increasingly frustrated with the poor services, high tariffs giving rise to an alarming increase in consumer complaints.
”it is worrisome that the majority of the issues we attend to are from the power sector. That tells you that something is fundamentally wrong somewhere. And not until the root cause of the issue is addressed, we may not get out of the woods”, Irukera said. Irukera added that any move to make consumers pay more for unconsumed electricity would be resisted.
Deputy General Manager, Consumer Services, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Shittu Shaibu, who was at the event, assured of the Federal Government and the NERC’s commitment to resolving estimated billing.
