Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has installed prepaid meters for 321,306 customers out of 608,252 since 2013. The Managing Director, EKEDC, Mr Adeoye Fadeyibi, made this known during the Senate Committee on Privatisation site visit. Fadeyibi said the company had metered 53% of its customers, with 78,000 customers metered under the Federal Government’s National Mass Metering Programme (NMMP).
According to Fadebiyi, ”EkEDC invested $13.7 million in Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for the purpose of Distribution Network Management.” ”Subsequently, over 1.6 million dollars was spent on the impressive Geographical Information System (GIS) for real-time customer information and asset management.”, he added.
Fadebiyi also stated that EKEDC has, in the last five years, invested over $94 million in its network. EKEDC has replaced, refurbished and upgraded obsolete equipment such as power transformers, panels and breakers and Injection Substations.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Orji Uzo Kalu, commended the company’s efforts and stated that the Committee would work with EKEDC to improve its performance.
