- FG seeks collaboration on electricity generation
- To collaborate with other West African states
The Minister of State for Power, Dr Goddy Jedy Agba, has sought the collaboration of West African countries on electricity generation. Agba made this known in a meeting with the Senegalese Minister of Energy, Ms Sophie Gladima. He stated that West Africa needed to develop a strong position don’t that represents the interests of the region in the upcoming COP26 Conference.
“Before the COP26, we need to meet. West African countries need to meet and take a strong position. I know that at the sub-regional level, we are working hard to develop a reliable power grid for the region, but we need to collaborate more because we have a lot to learn from each other.”
At the meeting, Ms Gladima stated that Senegal is seeking bilateral relations with Nigeria, especially in the energy and power sectors. She noted the improvement in electricity access in Senegal and stated that cooperation between both countries would strengthen the sector.
“….it’s important that the ties within ECOWAS countries, especially Nigeria, are strengthened. We need to make the West Africa Power Pool work more efficiently,” Gladima said.
Gladima also challenged Nigeria to take the lead in solving the electricity challenges in the region.
