FG seeks consumer cooperation on tariff increment
- Urges for calm as NERC implements minor review
- Says review is in line with the EPSRA
The Minister for Power Sale Mamman, has urged for calm and cooperation amongst electricity consumers. In a statement released by the Ministry of Power, Mamman said the Minor Review undertaken by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) aligns with the Electric Power Sector Reform Act (EPSRA) provision 2005. He further added that the review was necessary due to the fluctuating foreign exchange rates and rising inflation in the country. He assured that the Federal Government is not out to exploit the consumers.
Last week, the Members of the House of Representatives ordered a halt in the implementation of the Minor Review when it met. The House mandated the Committee on Power to ”engage the distribution companies and other Regulatory agencies to find a lasting solution and report back in four weeks”.
