To address the challenges of metering in the country, the Federal Government has set up a Committee of sector stakeholders. The Committee comprises members from the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Electricity Management Company (NEMSA), Mr Peter Ewesor, reiterated NEMSA’s commitment to ensuring, only certified metering infrastructure is installed for consumers. He said stressed that ”…with regard to the quality of installation of electricity meters in Nigeria and NEMSA is the agency responsible for enforcing the conditions for the installation of electricity meters in the grid,”

He urged the members of the Committee to work together to resolve the scourge of uncertified meter technicians and metering infrastructure in the country. ”I want to tell the panel that this is a very serious assignment, and I’m sure you know the consequences of what I have been saying in the industry because you must have seen a lot of havoc that meters have caused,” Ewesor said.

Dr Sule Mohammed, the Chairman of the Committee, assured that the duties of the Committee would be addressed without fear or favour.
