DPR, NERC, GenCos meet on sector challenges
- DPR to work with the GenCos on challenges with NGTNC
The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has promised to work hand in hand with the Generation Companies (GenCos) on the challenges with the implementation of the new Nigeria Gas Transportation Network Code (NGNTC). The DPR made this known in a meeting with GenCos and the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) on Monday.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. Sarki Auwalu speaking at the meeting acknowledged the issues raised by the GenCos on the implementation of the NGNTC and promised to work with the GenCos on how best to resolve them. ”they are issues we have observed with our interactions with you, we will identify them and work through it” he said. Auwalu added that the implementation of the NGNTC will help fast-track the transition to a gas economy.
While responding to the DPR, the Chairman, NERC who was represented by the Vice-Chairman Musili Oseni reiterated the need for an improvement in energy generation made possible by the improvement in gas supply. He added that the Commission was optimistic about the implementation of the code.
Mr. Godwin Ogaje who represented the GenCos, while acknowledging the implementation of the Code, raised concerns on the differences between the NGNTC and the Gas Transportation Agreement (GTA). He urged the DPR to look into new charges and the effects on the GenCos.
