  • Generation capacity drops to 3000MW
  • APGC says current capacity not utilised

The Executive Secretary, Association of Power Generation Companies (APGC), Dr Joy Ogaji, has said the country’s available generation capacity plunged from 9000MW to 6000MW. Ogaji stated that the available current capacity is being utilised. Figures obtained from the Federal Ministry of Power in Abuja showed that electricity consumption stood at 4,370.7MW.

”The 25 plants that are currently operating have a combined installed capacity of over 13,000MW, and they have an available capacity, which has dropped”, Ogaji noted. ”As at last year, we were almost hitting an available capacity of 9,000MW, but a lot of challenges have now dropped it too, as of this morning, above 6,000MW. This is what is available, but out of that, you know what is being utilised”.

Ogaji stated that efforts are ongoing to address the challenges in the industry; she further urged stakeholders to support operators in the power sector.
