The Minister of Power, Sale Mamman has said, Nigeria has gotten it right with the implementation of the National Mass Metering Program (NMMP). He made this known at the launch of the Yola DisCo Metering Launch.
He stated that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to finding a solution to the liquidity crisis of the sector. The NMMP will help alleviate, the revenue shortages affecting the sector value chain. He described the failure of consumers to pay for electricity bills as the effects of their lack of trust in the Distribution Companies (DisCos) as well as the poor metering penetration of the DisCos.
He stated “The Nigerian electricity market has, for many years, struggled with inadequate revenues, thus creating significant liquidity challenge for all market participants in the value chain. One of the major contributors to the funding challenge is the low level of metering for end-user consumers”.
