- Governor Ortom hails President Buhari’ performance in the power sector
- Urges for financial involvement of all three arms of government in the power sector
Benue state governor Samuel Ortom has hailed the performance of President Muhammadu Buhari in the power sector. Ortom stated that the current administration had made a remarkable improvement during a visit of the Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu, to the government house in Markudi, Benue state.
”Federal government has done well, but there is still room for improvement. South Africa without our population is having about 40,000 megawatts of electricity which is why industrialists are investing there,” Governor Ortom said.
”The number one problem of Nigeria is energy and light, which is also captured in the Bible. So, light is very critical to the development and survival of industrialisation,” he added.
The Minister, who spoke at the meeting, noted the various projects of the Federal Government in the state, including the 40MW transmission project from Kashimbilla, Taraba state to Yandev in Benue state and the switch substations in Ugba, Zaki Biam and Buruku in the state.
”The project is in two phases; phase one is from Kashimbila to Yandev, and phase two is from Yandev to Makurdi. Phase one is completed while phase two will be completed within six months,” Aliyu stated.
Governor Ortom also urged for the financial involvement of all tiers of government in the affairs of the power sector.
