- MEMMCOL seeks meter licenses for meter manufacturers.
Meter manufacturer, Momas Electricity Meter Manufacturing Company (MEMMCOL) has urged the Federal Government to license tried and trusted meter manufacturers. The Chairman MEMMCOL, Kola Balogun who made the plea, stated that licensing the meter manufacturers will help bridge the metering gap in the country.
”The government can select a few tested and trusted manufacturers that have the capacity and endorse them for the generality of consumers to buy prepaid meters directly from them,” Balogun said.
”They can grant them licenses just like banks, telecommunications and insurance companies” Balogun added.
Balogun urged the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to permit manufacturers to sell meters directly to consumers while the Distribution Companies (DisCos) carry out meter installations. ”We, as manufacturers, want NERC to give us the room to sell directly to consumers and take it to electricity Distribution Companies for installation,” he said.
The suggestion made by Chief Kola Balogun to offer Licenses to credible Meter manufacturer is the best solution to the problem of power supply in Nigeria.
