Ikeja, Eko to upgrade network infrastructure
- NERC approves ₦215 billion for upgrade
- The upgrades is part of the PIP of the DisCos
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has approved the sum of ₦215 billion for the upgrade of network infrastructure for Ikeja and Eko Distribution Companies (DisCos). This upgrade falls under the Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) of each DisCo.
The upgrades will cover network infrastructure, technological improvements for the reduction of power outages, and the procurement of network equipment. The approved Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) for Ikeja and Eko DisCos are ₦24.38 and ₦18.75 billion annually respectively. The approved PIP’s will take effect from 1st July 2021 to 30th June 2026.
In the Order to Ikeja DisCo, the Commission stated ”The approved PIPs shall also form the basis for defining Key Performance Index for IKEDC for the next five years by the Commission with an emphasis on improvement in energy throughout and improving service delivery to customers”.
