- Ikeja Electric aks customers to stay away from high voltage transmission infrastructure
Ikeja Electric Plc (IE) has cautioned its customers against constructing or carrying out activities around high-voltage transmission infrastructure. The Head of Quality, Safety and Environment, Ikeja Electric Engr. Jamiu Badmos warned of the dangers of erecting structures under or around transmission infrastructures.
Engr. Badmos stated that the proximity to these high-voltage installations is against the law, and therefore it is imperative that people vacate such areas to protect lives and properties. Ikeja Electric, according to Badmos, has spent at least ₦200 million in the last year on occupational hazards training and the purchase of protective clothing for its staff.
”As a responsible and safety conscious organization, safety enlightenment is a top priority, and we constantly sensitize members of the public on the dangers of improper handling of electrical issues through our Public Safety Sensitization Programme (PSSP),” Badmos said.
Badmos also called on the Federal and State governments to ”…harmonize efforts to find a lasting solution to this issue by wielding the big stick on defaulters” as the DisCos continue to sensitize its customers on the dangers of high-voltage infrastructures.
