Kano state government signs MOU with GACN and NNPC
- The AKK project estimated at $2.8 billion
The Kano State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Gas Aggregation Company of Nigeria (GACN) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) natural gas pipeline project. The project is estimated at $2.8 billion and involves a 614km gas pipeline. The Group Managing Director of NNPC, Mele Kyari, and Kano state Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje were represented by Chief Operating Officer, Gas & Power, Engr. Yusuf Usman and Kano state Deputy Governor Nasir Gawuna, respectively.
The GACN began sensitization engagements with the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) before the MOU signing. The Managing Director of GACN, Olalekan Ogunleye, stated that the project would fast track the transition to the use of gas for vehicles which in turn cuts down vehicular costs by 30%.
