- KEDCo signs MOU for network concession with Stata Power Utility.
- If implemented, the concession will strengthen revenue and reduce commercial losses.
The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCo) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to concession part of its network to Stata Power Utility to tackle commercial losses and strengthen revenue collection. The concession is, however, dependent on the approval of the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
”Stata is proud to announce that we have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCo) for the concession of a portion of their network. Its conclusive execution will be subject to NERC’s “No Objection”. Stata will upgrade and refurbish the existing distribution infrastructure, much of which is dilapidated and overloaded, causing significant ATC&C losses and poor reliability of electricity to customers. We also plan to develop renewable embedded power where there is low supply.” Stata Power Utility shared in a post on LinkedIn.
”At the initial stages of our business model, we plan to tackle commercial losses and focus on revenue protection. Smart Metering is paramount and a foundation for effective energy accounting, revenue management and ultimately the commercial viability of any utility.” the statement read.
”Our metering intervention will provide us with an integrated digital distribution network, which leverages the data from smart metering deployment to provide more granular insight into our operations and inform cost reduction strategies.” the utility stated.
