- KEDCo begins a clampdown on illegal connections and meter bypass
In a statement, Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCo) has lamented the impact of illegal connections and metering bypass on the utility’s financial stability. The Managing Director (MD), Dr Jamil Isyaku-Gwamna, stated that the utility would begin prosecuting these cases according to the provisions of the law.
“The era of coming to beg using third parties after committing such offences are over, as anyone found will be made to defend themselves in court.” the statement read.
“The decision by the management was taken to ensure that such ugly trends do not threaten KEDCO’s efforts at satisfying its numerous customers.” the statement continued. According to the statement, KEDCo has “…commenced tracking with a view to uncovering any act of illegal connection and bypassing of meters.” Isyaku-Gwamna appealed to customers to promptly pay their monthly bills and report suspected metering bypass cases or illegal connections.
