- Lafia to be connected to the national grid
- The state capital has been off the national grid for 24 years
The Nigeria Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has pre-commissioned a 330/132/3kV, 2x150MVA and 2x60MVA transmission sub-station constructed in Lafia, Nassarawa State, aimed at finally connecting the state capital to the national grid network. Lafia has been off the national grid since the creation of the state in 1996.
The Executive Director, Networks, Engineer Ifeoluwa Oyedele, who attended the pre-commissioning inspection visit to the substation in Lafia said, the residents of Lafia and its environs would benefit from the project economically as electricity supply would result in the boom of businesses in the state capital.
”The project will enhance uninterrupted power supply. Before now, even the Government House, Lafia, could not run on electricity from the distribution network because the 33kV line that comes from Akwanga is grossly inadequate to power the state capital and its environs.” Oyedele said.
The Deputy Managing Director of AK-AY Elektrik, the contractor handling the project, Dr Mohammed Gumi, thanked the NDPHC for trusting the company with the project and assured that the substation would be ready for commissioning in a few weeks.
