Nigeria, LONGi Forge Game-Changing Solar Deal

  • The deal establishes a 500–1000 MW solar panel factory in Nigeria.
  • It advances President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Solarisation Policy.

Nigeria has sealed a major solar partnership with LONGi, the world’s largest solar panel producer. The agreement, driven by the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) under Dr Abdullahi Mustapha, marks a defining step in the country’s clean energy journey. This solar partnership aims to strengthen local manufacturing, create green jobs, and expand affordable clean energy access.

The ECN delegation met LONGi’s leadership at the company’s Xi’an, Shaanxi, China headquarters. President Boshen Zhong and Vice President Li Wenxue welcomed the team warmly. They toured one of the world’s most advanced solar cell factories and witnessed innovations shaping global energy transformation.

ECN and LONGi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in London earlier in the year. During this latest visit, Dr Mustapha outlined plans to build a 500–1000 MW solar panel factory in Nigeria. The project will boost local production, attract foreign investment, and strengthen Nigeria’s renewable energy ecosystem.

The ECN presentation highlighted Africa’s vast solar potential and the growing need for solar mini-grids. It also reinforced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Solarisation Policy, designed to accelerate energy access nationwide. Consequently, LONGi pledged strong investment support and agreed to begin technical and operational planning for the factory.

This collaboration goes beyond industrial development. It represents a significant shift toward energy independence and sustainable growth. Nigeria and LONGi can transform the country’s renewable energy landscape by combining innovation, research, and effective policy.

Ultimately, this Nigerian solar partnership unites government, industry, and technology. Together, they will reshape Nigeria’s energy future, driving sustainability, empowering communities, and ensuring lasting energy security.
