  • Residents say complaints have gone unanswered by AEDC
  • AEDC assures work is ongoing to resolve the outage

Residents of Zone 6 Police Signpost, Lugbe in the Federal Captial Territory (FCT), have protested against the prolonged blackout in the area. According to the residents, the blackout has lasted for four months with no response from Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

The power outage has affected economic activities in the area, with some businesses seeking more expensive alternative power supply and others forced to shut down operations.

“I use a borrowed generator, but the prices of my services have to remain the same because it is not easy to increase prices and maintain my customers, so we have to bear it, but this condition has affected me badly.” Dauda Abdul, a barber, lamented.

The General Manager, Corporate Communications AEDC, Oyebode Fadipe, responding to the protests, stated that the cause of the blackout was a failure of the transformer supply in the affected area. Fadipe added that the AEDC is doing all in its power to resolve the issue.

“The transformer along with other required units are yet to be replaced, but all these are being looked into, and as soon as all the materials are gathered, light will be restored to the area,” Fadipe said.
