- Government seeks resolution on affordable gas pricing.
- Committee submits report on gas pricing.
- Sylva says Nigeria needs to develop the gas sector.
The Minister of State, Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, has received a Report on Domestic Gas Pricing. The Minister who received the Report at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Headquarters in Abuja. The Report was submitted by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources (MPR).
The Federal Government, in June 2020, set up a Committee to review the gas prices and recommend an appropriate pricing framework for critical sectors of the economy. While receiving the report, Sylva noted the need for an affordable pricing framework that makes gas affordable and increases investment in the sector. “Without appropriate pricing, we can’t get it right. We have to ensure that gas becomes affordable. It is sad to note that we sell gas cheaply to investors while the price is high in the domestic market to the extent that some Nigerians say diesel is cheaper than gas”, he said.
