The national electricity grid again collapsed on Monday at 1.00 pm, throwing some households and businesses into darkness. This is the second collapse within one month. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had on 28th July confirmed the total collapse of the national citing loss of 611MW at two electricity generation power plants as the reason for the collapse.
Two electricity distribution companies issued a statement confirming the collapse. In a statement on its Facebook page, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) said, ”We regret to inform you of a system collapse on the national grid that’s causing outages across our network. We are working with our TCN partners to restore supply as soon as possible. Please bear with us.”
Also confirming the collapse, Kaduna Electric, in a statement on its Facebook page, said, ”We sincerely apologise for the power outage in our franchise states which is due to a system collapse from the national grid. The supply shall be restored as soon as the grid is back up. We regret any inconvenience this may cause all our customers.”
