- NCDMB, Bayelsa government sign PPA
- To construct 10MW IPP in partnership with NAOC
The Bayelsa state government has signed a Power Purchas Agreement (PPA) with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) on a 10MW Independent Power Plant (IPP). The IPP is to be constructed by the NCDMB in partnership with the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) in Elebele, Bayelsa State.
The Agreement was signed in Yenagoa by the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Mr Simbi Wabote, and the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice of Bayelsa State, Mr Biriyai Dambo. In attendance at the signing was the Governor of Bayelsa state, Governor Douye Diri. The power plant will deliver an uninterrupted power supply to the 17 storeys Nigerian Content Tower (NCT) commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2020.
The Executive Secretary of the NCDMB, Mr Simbi Wabote, who spoke at the event, said the power plant would operate on a sustainable basis with the settlement of obligations to the gas suppliers, operation and maintenance contractors, purchase of spare parts and consumables required for timely maintenance.
Wabote, who described the event as historical, noted that the power supply under the PPA is not free. ”..the power supply is not free as all users, including NCDMB, are expected to make pre-payment deposit for their power requirements just as required by our gas suppliers. We were required to make up to six months deposit with the Gas Aggregation Company Nigeria before we got gas supply to the power plant. We believe there will be no default from any party that will trigger unpleasant outcome in the sustainability of the power plant operations.” Wabote said.
