- NERC to meet with stakeholders on NBET license renewal
- Seeks comments on NBET’s performance
Pursuant to the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trader’s (NBET) application for license renewal, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) will hold a public engagement with stakeholders on 17th September 2021. NBET had, on 12th February 2021, made an application for a renewal of its bulk electricity purchase and resale license. The NBET was issued a license to operate on 15th November 2011 with a maximum 10-year tenure.
In a notice published, NERC is seeking comments and submission from stakeholders on the following regulatory issues; stakeholders perception on the fulfilment of its mandate, the progress been made towards a contract-based electricity market, the commencement of partial activation of phased bilateral contracts for generation and distribution companies, innovation of the rights and obligations of NBET, the role of NBET in a substantially/fully competitive market and any other matters.
”The stakeholder engagement is scheduled to hold by 10am on 17 September 2021 at the Marriott Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos; and the deadline for the filing of stakeholder submissions by 3pm on 15 September 2021.” the notice read.
