NLC began strike action on Monday
- Federal Government urges negotiations
- Electricity supply cut off in Kaduna
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has agreed to call off its strike action in Kaduna state to allow for negotiations with the Kaduna state government. This comes on the heels intervention of the Minister of Labour, Prof. Chris Ngige who asked both parties to come for negotiations in Abuja.
Governor El Rufai has vowed not to negotiate with the NLC unless electricity supply is restored back in the state. “No official of Kaduna State will go to Abuja for any meeting with FGN (Federal Government of Nigeria) or NLC when the citizens of the State have no electricity” he said. “We hold the FGN responsible for (its) inability to assert its ownership rights over Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN). No electricity, no meeting” he added.
The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) an affiliate of the NLC joined the industrial action had on Sunday, disconnected the state from the national grid network in solidarity with the Union’s strike action. The NUEE has begun the reconnection of the state to the national grid.
Governor El Rufai had previously declared the NLC Chairman Ayuba Wabba wanted for ”Economic Sabotage”.
