- NNPC engages stakeholders
- Moves to address gas constraints issues
- Egbin Plc seeks support for expansion plan
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), in a bid to improve the synergy between the stakeholders in the gas-to-power sector, has begun engagements with gas suppliers and Generation Companies (GenCos) in the country. During a tour of Egbin Power Plant, the Chief Operating Officer, Gas and Power, NNPC, Mr Yusuf Usman, stated that the NNPC is committed to enhancing gas-to-power utilisation for the country’s benefit.
During the tout, the Chairman of Egbin Power Plc, Mr Temitope Shonubi, raised concerns about inadequate gas supply in the country. He noted that Egbin Plc, in line with its expansion drive, would add about 1,750MW and 1900MW to the national grid. He added that such an expansion drive requires adequate gas supply to be a success.
Responding to the concerns raised, Mr Usman said, “I have listened to all the concerns you raised. An area of concern to me is when you talked about the gas constraints. We are going to support you to make sure that the power supply is steady. We are having a session with gas suppliers in this regard”.
He stated that the visit was an eye-opener and added that the Federal Government would continue to work with sector stakeholders to address the gas-to-power challenges in the country.
