- Residents of Orile-Oko lament persistent blackout
- The community have been without supply for 18 years
- Governor Abiodun promises to prioritise infrastructural development
Residents of Orile-Oko, a community in Ogun State, have lamented the continuous blackout that has plagued the community for 18 years. Commercial activities in the community have ground to a halt with the lack of adequate electricity supply. However, residents say efforts to reconnect the community have been ignored by the relevant bodies.
High Chief Olakunle Olalekan, the Asiwaju of Orile-Imo, said, “Economically, financially and politically, we are affected. When we were enjoying electricity back then, artisans like welders relocated to the community, but immediately the light was off, they began to leave. As it is now, we only farm here. And you cannot even preserve your produce because there is no electricity. It is not ideal.”
Olalekan appealed to Ogun state Governor Dapo Abiodun to intervene in resolving the continuous blackout. “We appeal to the governor of the state to come to our aid,” he pleaded.
The Special Adviser to the governor on Public Communication, Remmy Hazzan, noted the complaints and stated that the state government would work towards a lasting solution to the problem. Hazzan also added that infrastructural development would continue to be prioritised under the administration of Governor Abiodun.
