- Olasun community suffers frequent power outages
- Alleges outrageous billing from IBEDC
- Community seeks NERC intervention in the matter
The Olasun community of Ado-Odo Ota local government area of Ogun state has asked the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) for help with concerns over the frequent power outages and outrageous billing by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).
Members of the community decry the constant power outages which sometimes, lasts for very long periods. The community also accuses the IBEDC of outrageous billing practices. A resident, Mr. Raufu Alege said “The IBEDC officials told us that we are in Band D, which entitles us to a minimum of eight hours of electricity daily, but the fact is we don’t have light at all for days”. Other residents complained of the lack of an explanation for the frequent outages.
Responding to the complaints raised, the Media Relations Manager Ms. Bukola Tunwase noted the concerns of the residents. She however added that most residents of the community are not metered hence the estimated billing for electricity. She also clarified that, the methodology used in calculating the monthly tariff was approved by NERC.
