- EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS reaffirms Nigeria’s importance to the EU.
According to the Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu, the federal government will continue to welcome new investors to help reposition the power industry. Aliyu made the remarks while receiving the European Union delegation in Abuja on Friday. The delegation was led by Samuela Isopi, the EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS.
According to the Minister, President Muhammadu Buhari is working hard to improve power sector infrastructure to provide the country with a stable and reliable power supply. However, hon Aliyu noted that the Nigerian energy supply sector value chain needs all the help it could get, including the European Union.
He highlighted the government-to-government cooperation between the German and Nigerian governments, which led to the latter signing a power project deal with Siemens AG, a German company. The Minister urged the EU Ambassador to encourage European investors to enter Nigeria’s electricity sector, saying there was room for more.
Samuela Isopi, the EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, commended the Minister on his appointment and the progress made in the power sector so far. Isopi reaffirms Nigeria’s importance to the European Union. The EU is the largest grant provider to the power industry and has created active cooperation with the government to re-launch and enhance energy supply over the past two years. The EU Ambassador assured the Minister of the EU’s continued support in tackling the country’s power sector difficulties.
