- PE Energy installs Nigeria’s first High Integrity Pressure Protection System (HIPPS).
- Over 80 HIPPS valves are currently placed in Nigeria, protecting an estimated $10 billion in investments.
PE Energy has commissioned Nigeria’s first fully equipped facility for the full overhaul, maintenance, and recertification cycle of the High Integrity Pressure Protection System (HIPPS), in line with Nigeria’s energy transition plan to attain zero routine gas flaring by 2035.
As the country makes incremental progress in the Energy Transition Plan, PE Energy is consistently identifying products and services that will aid the achievement of the net-zero flaring objective as well as core development of the local capacity to support the industry. This is an avenue to retain revenue in the country that will boost local revenue generation.
A sort of safety instrumented system called the High Integrity Pressure Protection System (HIPPS) is used to stop over-pressurization by cutting off the source of the high pressure. In conventional systems, relief valves that vent to the atmosphere handle overpressure. The technologies have blatant drawbacks, such as the emission of hazardous and combustible process fluids into the environment and flares that have a significant carbon footprint during installation.
The oil and gas industry is constantly looking at new ways to reduce emissions while still protecting the environment in light of the increased attention being paid to climate change and environmental protection. Over 80 HIPPS valves are currently placed in Nigeria, protecting an estimated $10 billion in investments.
