- PHEDC warns against meter tampering
- Laments increased cases of illegal connection in the franchise area
- To commence disconnection on April 1st, 2021
The Acting Manager of Corporate Communications, Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) Chioma Aniwe in a statement, warned customers who engage in meter tampering to desist from the act.
According to the statement, following investigations by PHEDC, it was found that a lot of customers are involved in illegal connections and meter bypass. Particularly, in certain states, these acts have become rampant. “This dangerous trend among our metered customers in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Rivers states has become a source of concern to us”, Aniwe noted.
“We wish to state that this unsafe act is dangerous to both the customers and the people living around. “We, therefore, advise customers to immediately desist from this practice as defaulters will be disconnected based on Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) regulations,” the statement read.
Aniwe warned that PHEDC will not be held liable for any damage, loss of life as a result of tampering by customers. PHEDC will commence disconnection of customers on April 1st.
