Poor electricity supply hinders industrialisation
- CPBA accuses AEDC of poor performance
The Chairman of the Coalition Business and Professional Association (CPBA) Niger chapter, Alhaji Mukhtar Lawal, has said the speedy industrialisation of the state is due to the poor and epileptic supply, insecurity, and poor road infrastructure. Speaking to reporters in Minna, Mukhtar asked the state government to pay attention to these challenges.
“Entrepreneurs cannot wait for eternity for government to put the infrastructure right; they will prefer to go to places where ready-made roads are in place,” Lawal said, adding that: “Good road networks are critical to the Industrial growth of any society”, Mukhtar stated.
Mukhtar also accused Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) of inadequate services, with some parts of the state getting as low as 2 hours of supply daily. He added that businesses currently seek alternative sources of electricity to function, which in turn increases the cost of production. He urged the AEDC to improve supply and provide adequate metering infrastructure for its customers.
