NIGERIA: Power Minister Meets With AfDB Vice President on Power

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Power, the Minister of Power Engr. Abubakar Aliyu has stated that the challenges of distribution and transmission have negatively impacted the utilisation of 13,000MW of electricity generated in the country. Aliyu made this known during a courtesy call by the Vice President for Power, Energy, Climate and Green Growth of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr Kevin Kariuki, in Abuja.

Engr. Aliyu commended the AfDB for its intervention in projects in the Nigerian power sector. He, however, noted that the sector required more funding interventions to deal with the current challenges. Aliyu also directed officials from the Ministry of Power to liaise witht the AfDB on other areas of collaboration.

Dr Kariuki commended the Minister on the ongoing reforms in the sector and welcomed the idea of further collaborations with the AfDB. Kariuki stated that the success of the power sector reforms in Nigeria would positively impact other African countries.
