NIGERIA: Power Sector Projects to Gulp ₦806.1 Billion in 2022

  • The power sector projects receive ₦806.1 billion budgetary allocation
  • Distribution expansion project to get ₦800 million
  • REA receives ₦114 million for electrification projects

The Federal Government has budgeted ₦806,103.5 for the power sector projects in the 2022 National Budget. The budgetary allocation will cover several projects of the FG in various agencies.

The budgetary allocation includes ₦220.5 million for multilateral and bilateral projects, including the Zungeru hydropower project, Abuja power feeding scheme, Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP); ₦1 billion for rural electrification access programmes in federal universities.

The Distribution Expansion Programme will receive an allocation of ₦800 million, while the Kashambilla transmission project will receive an allocation of ₦470 billion to evacuate stranded power from the national grid. In addition, the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) received an allocation of ₦114 for rural electrification projects nationwide; ₦303 million was also allocated for the construction of a 215MW LPFO/Gas Power Station in Kaduna.
