Residents of Aliade community in Benue state have apprehended two suspected transformer vandals. In a statement issued by the Head, Corporate Communications of the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC), Dr Adakole Elijah, the first suspect was apprehended when caught vandalising a transformer at 2 am.
”Upon his arrest, the youths invited the traditional ruler of Aliade, Chief John Wunde, to the scene of the incident before handing him over to the police for investigation and possible prosecution.”
”Upon interrogation, the suspect who confessed vandalising a total of five Distribution Transformers within the locality disclosed that he had allegedly been selling the vandalised items such as armoured cables, feeder pillars units, spans of aluminium conductors among other parts to one Mr Christian Odunwa in Makurdi.” the statement read.
Following the interrogation of the first suspect by the Police, the second suspect was arrested. ”Both the suspected vandal and his buyer have been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department, Police force headquarters in Makurdi for further action.”
The Managing Director JEDC, Engr Hashim Ibrahim Bakori, thank members of the Aliade community for being vigilant and urge other customers of the JEDC to emulate them.
