Senate Committee on Power visits NEMSA
- The Senate lamented the progress of metering despite funding
- ₦33 billion of the ₦59 billion released for metering
The Senate Committee on Power, led by Committee Chairman Gabriel Suswam, visited the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Authority (NEMSA) in line with its oversight functions. The Committee lamented the poor rate of metering in the country. Suswam expressed disappointment at the progress of the metering campaign of the Federal government despite the release of ₦39 billion in funding.
In his response, the Managing Director Peter Ewesor said, ”We have actually certified well over 15 companies in the last nine months because they know that if they are not producing meters in Nigeria, they will not have access to the facilities that the government is providing through the CBN”. ”All those who have been bringing in meters from outside the country now have to establish factories in Nigeria”, he added.
Ewesor thanked the Committee on the visit and also commended the FG’s metering policy.
