Seplat Petroleum has rebranded and will now be known as Seplat Energy. Seplat unveiled its new name and logo at its annual Seplat Energy Summit in Abuja, themed ‘Global Trends in Energy Transition: the African Perspective’. In addition, Seplat Energy unveiled its plans to end gas flaring by 2024, which the Minister of State Petroleum Resources endorsed.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of Seplat Energy Plc, A.B.C. Orjiako, stated that Seplat Energy plans to end gas flaring in its operations six years ahead of the governments’ target. “Seplat today delivers 50 per cent of gas needs in the country. We are very aligned with the Federal Government’s initiative in this regard, and we can only see this increasing. Replacing diesel generators with cleaner renewable energy will solve Nigeria’s power deficit.” Orjiako said.

The Minister of State Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, endorsing Seplat Energy as the flagship company to drive Nigeria’s energy transition, called for a globally approved, just and equitable energy transition pathway towards achieving net-zero emission by 2050.

In addition to putting an end to gas flaring, Seplat Energy will ensure the replacement of firewood in homes with Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG), in addition to its plans to preserve the environment through its tree-planting initiative, which will commence soon.
