NIGERIA: Seplat Transitions to Full Energy Company

Shareholders at the Annual General Meeting of Seplat Petroleum Development Company Plc, which held last week, have approved the company’s business expansion plans. The company, in line with its transition plans, has changed its name to Seplat Energy Plc.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Roger Brown, outlined the company’s vision for a transition to cleaner energy sources. He also highlighted Nigeria’s dependence need to develop her gas sector for economic development. “Nigeria needs to achieve significant growth in its capacity to deliver education and health services, food production and energy security. Without the development of its indigenous oil and gas industry, these goals will become very difficult to achieve, and so, in Nigeria, the industry remains not just relevant but essential,” he said.

The shareholders also approved the payment of dividends and corporate share buyback.
