Nigeria’s commitment to net zero by 2060 has seen consistent decisive action in recent times. The US presidential envoy for climate, Mr John Kerry, during his visit to the ministry of environment in Abuja on Tuesday, witnessed the signing of the Clean Energy Demand Initiative by the minister, Mohammed Abdullahi.
The minister stated that this initiative would improve the accessibility of clean energy to all citizens. He lauded the efforts of the government to reach the net zero pact by 2060, stating that as part of the plans to actualize this, the plan included passing the climate change act that will ensure the inclusion of the private sector in climate change activities.
Mr John Kerry said that the signing of the initiative will positively impact Nigeria economically by creating jobs and environmentally by improving air quality for all citizens now and in the future. He pledged the US government’s support to help implement the climate action plan. He spoke about the parties exploring the possibilities of increasing the Nationally Determined Contributions of the country through this initiative.
