Vandals operating in Edo state have vandalised the equipment of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC). The vandalised equipment, estimated to be worth over ₦50 million, was stolen from BEDC’s office in Ivue community in Uromi. The police are currently in pursuit of the vandals who forgot a phone at the crime scene.

The Head of Corporate Affairs, BEDC Adekunle Tayo, has confirmed the incident. Tayo lamented the increase in equipment theft in BEDC operating area and added that the matter had been reported to the Uromi Police. He called for tougher sanctions for equipment vandalism to serve as a deterrent to others. ”The substation is not feeding the public directly. We are appalled at the act and urge that tougher sanctions be meted out to vandals when caught to serve as a deterrent to them and others,” Tayo said.
