- Yola residents decry up 150% tariff increment
- Ask YEDC officials to disconnect the supply
- No statement from QENL the new owners of YEDC
Consumers in Yola, Adamawa State, have decried the recent increase in electricity tariffs up to 150% by Quest Electricity Nigeria Limited (QENL), who recently purchased Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC).
Private Consultant Haruna David stated that the new Management of the YEDC has caused untold hardship on residents with the tariff increase.” I have a two-bedroom apartment at Karewa area (Yola North LGA), where on a monthly basis, I paid a bill of ₦11,736. However, yesterday I was served with a ₦30,795 bill,” David stated.
“I was shocked to receive the new bill,” he said, adding that the new company, which had earlier said it would invest N28 billion for an upgrade, had evidently chosen to generate the sum through milking poor Nigerians.” Mr Muhammed Lawal, another resident, stated.
Residents in Bachure, Jimeta Old market, Shinko, Jambutu in Yola North, Yolde Pate, Wuro Hausa and Hayin Gada in Yola South have rejected the new charges asking YEDC officials to disconnect the electricity.
There has been no official statement from QENL on the increment.
