Nigeria’s Government Targets Transitioning the Country’s Railway

Nigeria’s government is targeting transitioning the country’s railway corporation services from diesel to cheaper liquefied natural and compressed natural gas. The development comes after the De-Sadel consortium presented the LNG-CNG alternative for joint deliberation by the Ministry of Transportation and the NRC at the Ministry’s headquarters.

Minister of Transportation Saidu Alkali, in a statement through the Media Director at the Ministry, Olujimi Oyetomi, said the development stems from the corporative advantage of LPG and CNG over diesel or locomotive energy sources.

Also, Alkali stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration wants to provide Nigerians with efficient, affordable, and sustainable transportation, given the recent removal of fuel subsidies.

He said, “It is the desire of our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to provide an efficient, affordable, and sustainable transportation system for the people of this great country, and I am sure this would go a long way in bringing down the cost of transportation.”
