- Nigeria’s energy sector generated 95,116.18MWh on the12th of July.
- This was the highest ever recorded generation capacity since May.
Nigeria’s power sector generated 95,116.18MWh of energy on Tuesday, 12th July, 2022. This represented a 5% increase compared to the 90,621.28MWh generated on Monday. This figure is the highest generation capacity the GenCos have recorded in over two months.
Data from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) showed that the last time the sector crossed the 95,000MWh was 4th May 2022, when electricity generation clocked 96,278.96MWh. Peak generation recorded was 4,343.2MW, while off-peak generation was 3,572.8MW.
On 1st July, the industry regulator NERC approved new power purchase agreements (PPAs) between the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET) and some generation companies (gencos). These new agreements with several GenCos, which require them to have a minimum available capacity of 5GW, aim to improve the power supply that has dwindled over the past couple of weeks.
