- The NNPC-SNEPCo donation underscores the oil sector’s commitment to boosting security and healthcare in the country.
In a bid to enhance security and healthcare services in Lagos State, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPC) and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd (SNEPCo) have donated vehicles, including a specialised ambulance, to key institutions in the state.
As part of the initiative, the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) received two security vehicles, while an intensive care unit ambulance was handed over to the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta, to boost emergency medical response.
At the handover ceremony, SNEPCo’s Country Security Manager, Isaac Akinjogunla, who represented Managing Director Ronald Adams, emphasised that the donation aligns with ongoing efforts to enhance security in Lagos.
“This underscores our support for efforts by the Lagos State Government to ensure security in the state,” Akinjogunla said. He urged recipients to ensure the careful usage and maintenance of the vehicles for maximum impact.
Also addressing the gathering, Engr Oluwaseyi Omotowa, Chief Upstream Investment Officer of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), noted that strengthening security operations contributes to a safer and more prosperous society.
“By enhancing the operational capacity of security agencies, these vehicles will contribute to a safer environment for all residents,” he stated, in remarks delivered by NUIMS Deputy Manager, External Relations, Mrs. Bunmi Lawson.
Omotowa further highlighted that NNPC-SNEPCo’s social investments extend beyond security, with ongoing support in education and healthcare across Lagos State.
In a separate presentation, Federal Medical Centre Ebute Metta received an intensive care unit ambulance to enhance emergency medical response. Presenting the ambulance on behalf of SNEPCo Managing Director Ronald Adams, Safety and Environment Manager David Aghaiyo stated,
“The ambulance supports the broader healthcare infrastructure within the community by facilitating quick transportation and medical care.”
The Medical Director/CEO of the medical centre, Dr Adedamola Dada, described the donation as an “answered prayer”, noting that it would significantly help the hospital manage the increasing number of patients requiring emergency transport services.
Omotowa also reiterated NNPC-SNEPCo’s commitment to improving healthcare access, stating,
“We recognise the critical role that healthcare plays in the lives of Nigerians and are dedicated to supporting initiatives that improve access to quality healthcare services.”
This latest donation builds on NNPC-SNEPCo’s ongoing social investment initiatives, which include:
- Security Support: A continuation of the company’s 2020 donation of 16 security vehicles to Lagos State
- Education Development: Scholarships, ICT centres, and digital libraries
- Healthcare Initiatives: Medical infrastructure projects and emergency response support
- Economic Empowerment: Training and mentorship programs under the Shell LiveWIRE scheme to promote self-employment
The Executive Secretary/CEO of LSSTF, Dr Abdurrazaq Balogun, expressed appreciation to NNPC-SNEPCo, emphasising that public-private collaboration is key to ensuring a secure and thriving Lagos.
“Together, we can work towards a safer and more secure environment where our businesses continue to thrive, and our loved ones are safe,” he said.
